I am a Geek! (but only for 47%)

I am 47% Geek.
Geek? Yes, but at least I got social skills.

You probably work in computers, or a history deptartment at a college. You never really fit in with the “normal” crowd. But you have friends, and this is a good thing.

An update on joan

I’ve continued working on her yesterday. I made her some hair. But as far as I am concerned I learned everything I needed to learn about sub division modelling from that tutorial. I might start working on a totally different 3D character today, something that looks more fun (I always had a thing for cartoony characters). This model however isn’t cancelled, I will continu working on her when I feel like it.

In other news, did I wish you guys a merry x-mas yet?

The return of the king of cold!

Well, he’s back. A month too soon, winter has unveiled itself for the first time… Winter has returned! And from the looks of it my car did not like it one bit!

When I started my engine it started fine, but after 5 seconds I heard and felt two knocks coming from the engine. This is the first time I have experienced something like this but I suspect it has something to do with the freezing temperature. I hope this will be a rare event. Afterwards my diesel powered car ran just fine. I think I’ll make a small road trip next weekend to get the battery fully charged.

I myself didn’t like the cold weather much more. I hate scratching the ice from my windscreens, thank god for antifreeze. (Yes, I am that lazy ;) ) When I arrived later at work the company small van was also covered in a nice ice coating. Thank God I didn’t need to drive that one around today. (Even though it is a fun little engine in there, much more powerful than mine, but because it is a van I always get the feeling that I will tip over in sharp turns so I go easy on the gas pedal.)

There’s a high pressure system above our country right now which causes things to be windstill. Not having any wind isn’t a bad thing you’dd think, but because there is no wind there’s fog and smog keeps floating around which doesn’t make air very healthy right now. It might seem stupid but I can sense that the air is not as fresh as it should be, in my opinion every one who’s doing sports outside right now isn’t that smart. There is a lot of filth floating around, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were healthier to smoke a sigaret inside.

But another time of the year is approaching, a happy time. Or so we think… The holidays and new year are a time of despiration over here for many. Lonelly depressed people start a campagne of suicides, thieves are having joyful times stealing the christmas gift money from unaware customers. And then there are people like me, who are just wondering, what’s the point of all of this? Getting gifts sure is nice, but that seems just so commercial :D Being together with the family might be another reason, but I do that everyday! Now from a religious point I can understand christmas for 100 percent, the birth of Jesus, that cool guy that could walk on water and heal the sick.

I bet Jesus was the Fonzy of his time. Always causing trouble amongst those silly imperialistic Romans, travelling with his merry bunch of friends and one other guy which they probably added for fun, Judas (like Steve Urkel in Family matters).

Judas must have looked similar.

I bet they had a lot of unwritten and overly funny adventures, kind of like the Goonies. Man I wouldn’t mind having a drink with those guys and hear some of those stories. Jesus is tha man :D

This is how I imagine Jesus and the gang, of course they were with a lot more, all together there were thirteen. Girls weren’t allowed in their club.

Character modelling

Character modelling, a border I had not yet crossed until… last weekend!!
TUM! TUM! TUM!

That’s right, last week I encountered a tutorial that explained it all the basic modelling. It starts with the shape of the body, ,followed by the head, clothing, etcetera. This tutorial can be found here.

I haven’t followed the tutorial 100% the same way (Hey a man has got to have creativity!).

Overal I am pretty satisfied about the result. Frankly I wished I had taken the time earlier to do this kind of thing, I wonder if the animating proces will be as much fun… I seriously doubt it.

The reason why I’m trying to model a character is pretty simple. It is a goal I have set for myself, my one true ambition is to become a good modeller/animator. It is ironic though, I never believe that I am good at anything. And since I don’t think life has much use if you do not try to reach your own goals this means I’ll be learning and improving myself in this branche till I drop dead (only to rencarnate and continu what I started :D ).
I’ve added some renders of the model thus far. If anyone has tips, please do share them with me.

I have also bothered to update the links on my blog, I’ve added several 3D communities that I keep track of. An other category added contains the webcomics which I read on almost daily basis.
