This is a fun text someone has sent me:
Wife1.0
Last year a friend of mine upgraded GirlFriend1.0 to Wife1.0 and found that it’s a memory hog leaving very little system resources for other applications. He is only now noticing that Wife1.0 also is spawning Child-Processes which are further consuming valuable resources. No mention of this particular phenomena was included in the product brochure or the documentation, though other users have informed him that this is to be expected due to the nature of the application. Not only that, Wife1.0 installs itself such that it is always lauched at system initialization where it can monitor all other system activity. He’s finding that some applications such as PokerNight10.3, BeerBash2.5, and PubNight 7.0 are no longer able to run in the system at all, crashing the system when selected (even though they always worked fine before). At installation, Wife1.0 provides no option as to the installation of undesired Plug-Ins such as MotherInLaw55.8 and BrotherInLaw Beta release. Also, system performance seems to diminish with each passing day.
Some features he’d like to see in the upcoming wife2.0.
- A “Don’t remind me again” button
- Minimize button
- An install shield feature that allows Wife2.0 be installed with the option to uninstall at anytime without the loss of cache and other system resources.
- An option to run the network driver in promiscuous mode which would allow the systems hardware probe feature to be much more useful.
I myself decided to avoid all of the headaches associated with Wife1.0 by sticking with Girlfriend2.0. Even here, however, I found many problems. Apparently you cannot install Girlfriend2.0 on top of Girlfriend1.0. You must uninstall Girlfriend1.0 first. Other users say this is a long standing bug which I should have been aware of. Apparently the versions of Girlfriend have conflicts over shared use of the I/O port. You think they would have fixed such a stupid bug by now.To make matters worse, The uninstall program for Girlfriend 1.0 doesn’t work very well leaving undesirable traces of the application in the system. Another thing that sucks — all versions of Girlfriend continually popup little annoying messages about the advantages of upgrading to Wife1.0
***** BUG WARNING ********
Wife 1.0 has an undocumented bug. If you try to install Mistress 1.1 before uninstalling Wife 1.0, Wife 1.0 will delete MSMoney files before doing the uninstall itself. Then Mistress 1.1 will refuse to install, claiming insufficient resources.
*** BUG WORK-AROUNDS ***************
To avoid the above bug, try installing Mistress 1.1 on a different system and never run any file transfer applications such as Laplink 6.0.
Also, beware of similar shareware applications that have been known to carry viruses that may affect Wife 1.0. Another solution would be to run Mistress 1.0 via a UseNet provider under an anonymous name. Here again, beware of the viruses which can accidently be downloaded from the UseNet.

Make sure to put cooling paste where it doesn’t need to be.

Happy birthday to me,
So yes, I’ve made it. I survived the first year of my third decade on this planet. I can’t say I have done anything useful during this year. Except for getting a job!
And a few macs.
I also learned a lot of new tricks in 3Ds max and joined up with the dark armada team.
So what does the next year have in store for me. Well for starters I’m going to sign up for art classes in september! Yes yes, I am going to turn myself into the next (digital) Da Vinci (only slightly more sexy)! At work I am currently developing a software package (even though I’m a pc-tech guy) that could be my biggest programming project to date.
Another thing I am expecting of my 21st year on this planet is buying a car. Allready I have saved an amount of money and I have a type of car in my mind: The citroen Saxo , a small economic car (cause I don’t really see the need for a big car) .
Furthermore I am going to continu to gather knowledge on 3D modelling, even as I am typing this I am expecting a book to arrive explaining how to create the elements in 3D (Water, fire, …). I am also waiting on another book that explains in great detail how animation projects are created, it should even give me some tips on character modelling (something which I’ve been longing to do for a while now). I have no clue yet as to what kind of short I am going to make, but I will take every bit of time to make it according to my vision.
What else can we expect? Well there’s the release of windows vista, not that it has anything to do with me. To be honest I couldn’t care less. Never have I been so disappointed in microsoft. I remember when I used to look forward to this operating system.
Like more than a friggin’ year ago…
I’ve seen the light, if I want comfort I’ll use mac os…
If I need to do work (3ds max, .net programming) and gaming (guild wars) I’ll just stick with XP for now.
If I get really lucky and manage to save enough money I should be ordering a Mac Pro on my next birthday
(this is just a bit of dreaming on my part
)
What else could I do in this new year of my life, well there’s a thing I say every year but never manage to do:
Find a girlfriend.
